Fang Crosses the Rainbow Bridge

I’ve never been one to talk about sad things too much. But, I feel like it’s something that I need to do – to put an ending to Fang’s story, here, where I started it.

On May 28th, 2018, Fang passed away. It was all rather sudden, as it so often is with cats since they often don’t tell us when they don’t feel well. Both Fang and his brother Duffy suffered from kidney failure, and despite our best efforts, in the span of a few months we lost them both. We had a veterinarian come to the house so that they could leave the world in comfort and surrounded by those that love them.

I can’t help but reflect, though, on how happy we are that Fang’s amputation gave him so much more time with us than he ever would have had otherwise. We were headed toward 6 extra long and happy years, in fact. He ran, jumped, hunted and played. He slowed down, cuddled, grew old, and eventually died at nearly 17 years old. For a cat, that’s about the best we can hope for, isn’t it?

So, goodbye Fang. I love you buddy. Hope you’re playing with your brothers somewhere.

  1. I am so sorry for the loss of Fang. He was one of the very first Kitties on here. I remember because I have been a member going on 6 years. I lost Sassy 5 years ago and watched Fang continue on. My thoughts and prayers for you.

Fang will always be a pioneer here and a true Hero. Run free Fang. Until you meet your family again.

  2. Very sad to read this. I looked up Fang when I saw the picture of him on some banner somewhere here with one leg straight in the air…striking! Very sorry for your loss.

    XOXO

  3. My deepest condolences to you for the loss of not just one fur baby within a few months, but two! Fang and Duffy will always be together and they will always surround you with their love!
I have just read through Fang’s incredible journey and that is amazing that Fang was one of Tripawds first Kitty’s! He will always be a part of this community and it is all due to the fact that you were both brave enough to go through with Fang’s surgery and you chose to document it… Many pawrents thank you!
Fang was a beautiful and proud looking boy!
The mice at the bridge are going to have a blast playing with him!
Please take good care of yourself during this time of grieving. Know that your kids are right by your side, ALWAYS!!!
    Many hugs coming your way.

  4. We are so sorry to read Fang’s journey had to end & Duffy too!

Fangs story was one of the first we read on Tripawds before we joined. Without Fang who knows how many lives would NOT have been saved. You had the courage to join a dog only site looking for advice and we for one will always be grateful to you and Fang. Although his earthly journey is over Fang will live on fur eternity on Tripawds saving kitties and in all of our hearts & lives. Thank you, Fang & Mom!

Run Free Fang use that 4th leg again, and your new wings buddy lots of mice to be catching and tossing at the bridge.
You will never be forgotten! Furever in our hearts!

Watch for signs I am sure they will send you some!

  5. Oh Chantal, this is the post we never wanted to read. Yes, 17 is pretty darn amazing and what a blessing to have an animal in your life for so long. Fang was pure magic. But still, our hearts are heavy here, and we send our deepest condolences to you. We are truly sorry.

I hope you know that because of your courage in starting Fang’s blog and sharing his story with the world, you have helped to give many, maybe even hundreds, of cats a chance at living as long and happy a life as Fang. Almost every day now we have a new kitty member join us, and no doubt it’s because Fang’s story built up such an audience on the internet that now it’s easily found by search engines. When people find it in their moment of doubt, worry and fear, you and Fang give them sunshine and hope that things can be alright on three legs. THANK YOU.

We will never, ever forget Fang the fabulous and brave TriKitty. His legend lives on.

    With much love & condolences,
Rene, Jim, Wyatt Ray, Spirit Jerry & the Tripawds Nation

  6. Chantal, I also want to say how sorry we are about Duffy. Losing one is hard, losing two so close together is unimaginable. We are very, very sorry.

  7. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Thank you for sharing Fang’s story. You helped me see that my Bob would be fine after his amputation (chondrosarcoma), and 4 years later he’s still doing great.

  8. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to offer condolences. I appreciate it. Fang was lucky to have many friends in the pet world, and we are so thankful for that. 🙂

  9. I am so so sorry to hear of the loss of Fang, but what a journey he had. I joined Tripawds because of your blog, back in December 2012 and Fang’s story was still so fresh then.

So thank you – thank you – thank you. It was your story and that of Fang that made the decision to go forward with Freya’s amputation that much more easier. It was so informative and detailed and it gave me comfort in my own dark time.

It was the comfort I took from your blog that led me to document mine here to assist others in their time of need. And so I am here nearly six years later with Freya still by my side at 14 years of age.

    Vale Fang. What a champ.
